So yesterday while I was walking to class, there were these people who were standing on street corners handing out little booklets/pamphlets. I wasn’t really paying attention much to what there were saying, but I did notice that A LOT of people were passing up the pamphlets. So as I was getting closer and was handed a pamphlet myself, I accepted it, smiled at the nice young man, and said thank you. He smiled and said thank you back. =] Once I looked down at the what I was given, I was completely filled with joy. Honestly, I have no idea why, but I was really, really happy to see that it was a pamphlet on veganism and cruelty to animals. (Okay, just to be clear I wasn’t happy to see all the pictures of tortured animals and I wasn’t happy to see how many people were ignoring this type of information, but I was happy to see that it was actually being promoted. It was my first experience =] and it made me happy.) I wanted to ask him some question, because I’ve just started being a vegetarian and am slowing making my way towards being vegan, but I couldn’t because I had to get to class.
After class I was on a mission to find that man. And I did! We talked for a few minutes, and he handed me another pamphlet on what to eat, where to get vegan friendly stuff, etc. Totally excited. That night, my boyfriend and I went out to a vegan friendly restaurant and guess who I saw there?! That nice, nice man who handed me those pamphlets! =] He was sitting at the table right in front of me (with his back in my direction) so I didn’t realize it was him until he got up to leave. =[
All in all, I guess what I was trying to say is that - I was excited to actually see veganism being promoted around my campus; however, I wasn’t exactly that happy to see how many people were ignoring the information. It was just a total bag of mixed emotions.
